The Need for and Recovery of Community Spirituality

As we draw closer to the end times, the church needs community spirituality more than ever. This is not a new concept. From the beginning, God called Israel to be a covenant community, commanding them to pass on faith from generation to generation so that they might live as His people.
Israelite society was deeply community-centered. They kept the feasts together, worshiped together, and taught God’s law and works to their children. Deuteronomy 6 emphasizes that both parents and the community share responsibility to raise up the next generation in faith.
Even when Israel lost its nation and was taken into Babylonian exile, they kept their identity through the Law, the Sabbath, the feasts, and synagogue gatherings. After the exile, Ezra and Nehemiah led the people to read the Word, renew the covenant, and repent together, restoring the spiritual life of the community.
Because they preserved their identity as a faith community, Israel survived two thousand years of diaspora and, in 1948, experienced the historic miracle of restoring their nation. This shows that community spirituality is not just a religious routine — it is the power that preserves a people, carries on God’s redemptive plan, and fulfills His promises.
The church today has the same calling. Salvation is received individually, but the Kingdom of God comes through the community. It is when we gather as the body of Christ — to worship, learn the Word, pray, and raise up the next generation — that we experience the reality of the Kingdom of God on earth.
Community spirituality means more than simply attending programs. It is joining in God’s work, participating in His redemptive story, and sharing in His glory. As Paul writes, we are members of Christ’s body (1 Cor. 12) and are called to share both in His sufferings and in His glory (Rom. 8:17).
Perhaps you have been living only a private, individual faith life, or perhaps you have been neglecting community spirituality and therefore missing out on the blessings, grace, and glory that God pours out upon His people together. Now is the time to make a decision. Step deeper into the body of Christ. Build up one another’s faith, rejoice and weep together, and join hands in the work of the Kingdom.
When we do this, we become instruments to fulfill God’s will on earth, and when Christ returns, we will share in His eternal glory. This is the great challenge and promise that community spirituality offers to us.
