[Ac 23:11, NIV] The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, "Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."
As we journey through life, there are suffocating moments when we feel completely surrounded, as if trapped on all sides. Paul, in today’s text, was in exactly that situation. He had been unjustly beaten, imprisoned, and 40 Jewish men had formed a conspiracy, vowing neither to eat nor drink until they had killed him.
If 40 people vow not to eat or drink just to kill you, it is not easy to even imagine how great that pressure would be. To anyone’s eyes, it was a hopeless situation. However, right in the center of this chaos, God was preparing an amazing reversal.
On that night, when Paul felt most afraid and lonely, the Lord 'stood near' Paul and spoke.
"Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome." (Acts 23:11)
The Lord gave him a guarantee of life, essentially saying, "You have a mission to go all the way to Rome. Therefore, you will never die here." God was present even inside the prison and was guarding Paul's side. A person with a mission to fulfill God’s will never dies until that mission is complete.
Second, God turns the attacks of enemies to His advantage.
Because of the assassination threat against Paul, the Roman commander assigned a total of 470 elite troops—including infantry, cavalry, and spearmen—to safely escort Paul to Caesarea, where the governor was stationed.
The enemies plotted to kill Paul, but thanks to that very plot, God ensured that Paul traveled to his mission field under the VIP escort of the Roman army. Suffering was transformed into the safest mode of transportation.
God is the One who fulfills His will through our suffering and difficulties, turns crises into opportunities, and changes misfortune into blessing.
We must not be frustrated or discouraged by the problems that approach us; instead, we must realize God’s will and blessing hidden within them and break through with faith.
God reveals His power and glory even in the midst of our suffering. A crisis is simply an opportunity to display God's glory.
When you trust in the God who turns your crisis into opportunity and reverses even the attacks of enemies into tools to help you, your calling and mission will surely be accomplished.
